We all know that the number pi (𝜋=3.14159265…) is very important for us. We need this number pi in geometry as well as in problem solving of physics, maths even in chemistry.

But if I said that there is a number which can explain everything, literally everything in our universe, then what will be your expression?

Actually, there exist a number which is called phi(ⲫ=1.6180339). This number is called Golden number.

But before knowing about golden number we should know about-

Fibonacci Series

It is a series which starts with 0,1 and we continuously add two consecutive numbers everytime

The sequence is like this

0+1=1-----(3rd Fibonacci number) 1+1=2 2+1=3 3+2=5 ... Fibonacci series=0,1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21,34,55,89,144,...

This series is up to infinity. And this series is also used to understand computer algorithms. But we have to know this series first to understand another important thing.

Golden Ratio

Now, what is the Golden ratio?

Actually, the object ⲫ is called the Golden ratio which is given like this-

Two numbers a,b are said to to be in golden ratio if {(a+b)/a}={a/b}=ⲫ. Where a>b>0.

So this Greek latter ⲫ(phi) is an irrational number which is called the golden ratio and is a solution of the quadratic equation, x2-x-1=0. So its value is 1.6180339…

Now you may ask,

What is the relation between the Fibonacci series and Golden Ratio?

Well just do the Golden ratio of any two consecutive numbers in the Fibonacci series. You will find a great fact. I do it for you. See this-

Where this golden ratio actually works?

The golden ratio is used in Architecture, Art, Drawing, Music, even it can be found in Nature. Almost everywhere you can find the golden ratio.

From the smallest part of the universe to the large galaxies, even in the Pyramid, everywhere we can find the golden ratio.

It is also said that any object whose ratio is equal to the golden number, becomes more attractive than others. And this is applicable to all living and non-living objects.

So, I hope now you can imagine the speciality of the Golden ratio and Golden number

For example,

Staring from our

DNA

When we see the DNA with a cross-sectional view from the top, the double helix forms a decagon. And a decagon is actually a combination of two pentagons, with one rotated by 36 degrees from the other, so each spiral of the double helix areas the shape of a pentagon. And the ratio of the diagonal of a pentagon to its side is φ to 1.

Human Body

The length from our head to toe divided by the length from our belly button to toe is ⲫ.

Now if we divide the length from the top of the head to the shoulder by the length from the top of the head to our chin, it comes φ.

So, as I said, before the Golden ratio can describe almost everything in our universe. There are lots of more examples like these.

This is why is said that mathematic is the language of Universe and God use this golden ratio to create everything,

From an atom to an galaxy.

So this is why Golden Number and Golden ratio is so special.
